Top ten signs you’re meant to be an entrepreneur

Have you ever been sat in your current jobs quarterly office meeting, as your CFO divulges the company figures for the year so far…

‘ So, if we all pull our socks up we’ll hit the annual target. Now we had some descrepencies in… ’

**** Que row upon row of dead-pan faces ****

‘Now, let me hand over the floor to Craig in accounts as he breaks down last months figures in one his speciality funky PowerPoint slide shows…’

If by this point you’ve just stopped listening altogether as you honestly couldn’t give a rats backside (eww) if the companies making any profit or not, this is a clear sign, and probably one of many more, that you’re probably not supposed to be there.

Some people go on to live their entire lives in this way, in dead end, soulless jobs, which end up leaving them feeling empty, lost and dejected. Our jobs are 80% of our daily lives, so if you’re not doing something that excites you , think how much that’s affecting not only your life but your entire mind-set. If this is you then maybe it’s time for a serious change.

Truuussst me, I’ve been there! But first you need to decide whether your next move is to start applying for jobs in other sectors for companies you could see yourself working for and enjoying, orrrrr, if you’re ready to take the leap into the unknown and build something all of your very own! Check out my top ten signs you’re meant to be an entrepreneur below to see if this could be you!

1. YOU’RE A CREATIVE, FREE-THINKER

You have all these amazing ideas but in the past you’ve just been too nervous to share.

Imagine if Thomas Edison had thought, ‘Ooooh I’m not going to share my findings on inventing this light bulb thing, people will just laugh at me and think I’m silly. I’m just going to play the victim and feel sorry for myself as I wonder why no-one believes in me.” Hmmm somehow I can’t imagine that either. If you have all these great ideas and deep down in your gut you really feel you could make your mark in this world (no matter how big or small) you have to follow your instincts, after all that’s why we were given them.

2. YOU TALK ABOUT IDEAS, NOT PEOPLE.

You’re not the type of person who likes to sit and moan and bitch about others when they’re not in the room, in fact you don’t talk or really think about them at all. You’re more interested in connecting with like minded individuals who you can bounce off ideas with and share you passions and lust for self-improvement and proactivity.

3. YOU’RE NOT AFRAID TO PUT IN THE HARD WORK

If it’s something you really believe in, you can fully appreciate the sacrifes needed to reach your goal. You’re not delusional, you don’t believe in miracles but you do believe in a positive can-do attitude, sheer passion and a good work ethic; if it’s something you love doing.

4. YOU DON’T LIKE BEING TOLD WHAT TO DO

Especially when it’s by someone you have zero respect for, and it’s not even anything to do with your ego, you just honestly believe your time could be better spent doing more productive things elsewhere.

Yes, you may hate your job too, but it’s more than that, you’ve lost the drive to even bother applying for another one which will probably end up being not so different than the current one. You can see that you’ve been stuck in a cycle and you’re finally seeing an escape route. You’re not really interested in working for other companies you only half-heartedly believe in anymore. You want to get stuck into something that fills you with purpose, passion and drive.

5. YOU’RE ALWAYS LOOKING AT NEW WAYS TO IMPROVE YOURSELF AND THE PROJECTS YOU’RE INVOLVED IN.

You’re favourite word seems to be why? Just because something’s been done the same way, all day, for however long, it doesn’t mean that’s the best way of doing it. You understand that sometimes people need to be shown something they didn’t even realise they needed.

You hold the same values for yourself too, you’re always looking at ways to improve as a person, you’re interested in the metaphysics of how the mind works and how other interact with you. You welcome feedback and are fascinated about how our thoughts create our future and general state of mind.

6. YOU ARE NOT A SHEEP.

You’ve never followed the crowd, perhaps you’re even a little quirky (ahem nothing wrong with that!) you dance to the beat of your own drum and simply don’t understand how the majority of others just seem to conform without questioning anything.

7.YOU POSSESS A THICK SKIN AND AREN’T AFRAID OF HARD WORK

Outside opinions do not affect you, ok so you’re not a robot either, but if it’s concerning something you really believe in you’re not the type of person to be easily swayed or guided elsewhere. Giving up is simply not an option for you, you’d actually rather suffer knowing you’re on the right track then live a life of mediocrity on the ‘socially acceptable’ path.

One of my favourite Muhammad Ali quotes sums this up perfectly below…

8. YOU FIND IT HARD TO SLEEP AT NIGHT

You envy those people who seem to fall asleep at night as soon as their head hits the pillow. Bed time for you is suddenly when all of your potentially great ideas decide to pop up and make an appearance. You never seem to be able to switch off and your mind seems to be a never-ending computer screen with two hundred tabs open.

9. YOU FEEL THE FEAR BUT DO IT ANYWAY

Yes, you know certain life situations are scary, some even have you questioning your own sanity if you decide to do them, but if it’s a route to drastically improving your life or well –being, no matter how much it frightens you, you will always do it, for you there simply isn’t another option.

10. YOU KNOW IT’S UP TO YOU TO MAKE YOUR LIFE BETTER THAN THE ONE YOU’RE CURRENTLY LIVING.

Hold up, wait, yes I know everyone thinks their lives should be better than they actually are but the difference is you’re prepared to put in the time, effort and sacrifice to actually do something about it. You don’t just sit there and moan all day about how crappy your job is or how bored you are, you realise you’ve brought these circumstances upon yourself and you’re prepared to do whatever it takes to improve them.

Accepting your current state is not an option as you understand that this is only your ‘current state’ due to bad decisions you made in the past, you’ve seen where you’ve gone wrong and you’re ready and willing for the crazy journey ahead of you!

Ok, so did any of these ring true for you at all? I’d love to hear any of your stories of how you realised it was time to take the leap yourself.

If you said yes to more than five of these signs then it’s safe to say you need to buckle up and take the plunge to living your trustest self because ‘big tings’ are about to go off my friend! I’m so excited for you!

B xx
